Spiced Pecans

Spiced Pecans

It’s almost here.  It’s almost time.  It’s even beginning to look a lot like Christmas!  Aren’t you excited?  I am.  I am SO excited.  Not for presents, oh no.  I am excited to be in the kitchen.  Wait a minute.  I know that I’m in the kitchen all the time but there is something about Christmas that draws me to the kitchen.  Oh, how I love the kitchen at Christmas time.  The smells, all of the little goodies on trays, the pretty lights, and we can’t forget the tinsel.  Ah, yes, Christmas.

Were you fortunate enough to have been invite out to a gathering or feast?  If you have and you are looking for something you can give to your hostess make these spiced pecans!  What a lovely idea, right?  These nuts are sweet and salty with a little kick to them.  They only take 20 minutes to bake and they won’t break the bank or make you look cheap 🙂

Spiced Pecans

4 cups unsalted pecan halves

2 tablespoons maple syrup

4 teaspoons coarse salt

1 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes

1 teaspoon chili powder

1 teaspoon cayenne

1 teaspoon chili paste

 To Prepare

Preheat oven to 300 degrees. Line a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper; set aside. In a medium bowl, combine pecans, maple syrup, 3 teaspoons salt, pepper flakes, chili powder, cayenne, and chili paste. Toss to coat.

Spread nuts in a single layer on prepared baking sheet, and bake for 20 minutes. Remove from oven, toss with remaining teaspoon salt and let cool. Serve immediately or store, at room temperature, in an airtight container for up to 1 week.

These pecans are incredibly good.  Any hostess would love this as a gift.  This is the best spicy-sweet nut recipe I’ve found so far. If you prefer less heat you could add an extra tablespoon of maple syrup and use half the cayenne pepper.  The beauty of this recipe is that you just stir, dump, and toast!
