Lime Ginger Sparkler

Lime Ginger Sparkler

It’s Tuesday January 3rd, 2012, how are you doing with your New Year Resolution?  Are you sticking to it?  Is it easy?  Or are you struggling?  I have something for you that might make your whole new year resolution a bit more tolerable.  Would you like a lime ginger sparkler?  You can have it with or without alcohol.  If your resolution was to lose weight than I suggest you opt out of the alcohol and go for the sparkling water.  With or without the alcohol this drink is delicious.  The combination of lime and ginger really works well together and then throw in some bubbles and we’re talking ‘oh my god’ good!

Lime Ginger Sparkler

Ingredients

1 tablespoon finely grated peeled fresh ginger

2 teaspoons freshly squeezed lime juice

1/2 cup sugar

1 bottle (750 ml) dry sparkling wine, such as Cava, Prosecco, or Champagne (alcoholic version)
or
1 bottle (750 ml) Perrier or San Pellegrino (non-alcoholic version)

To Prepare the Lime Ginger Sparkler

Set a fine-mesh sieve over a small bowl; set aside. In a small saucepan, boil ginger, lime juice, sugar, and 1/4 cup water until syrupy, about 2 minutes. Pour through sieve into bowl, discarding solids. (To store syrup, refrigerate in an airtight container, up to 1 week.)

Pour 1 tablespoon syrup into each of 8 tall glasses. Top with sparkling wine, and gently stir.

 Makes 8 drinks

Note:  Choose either the sparkling water or the sparkling wine but do not add both.

If you are on the third day of your new year resolution and you are looking for something that has more flavor than water you really should pour yourself one of these drinks.  Sit back, sip and enjoy it’s 2012 after all 🙂
